A journey through infertility treatment
Infertility is an issue that has become very common nowadays. Many men and women suffer from this. Couples usually try to have a child through a natural process as much possible, but for those who aren’t successful, well, no need to worry. Technology has advanced and we have come a long way. Infertility can be cured, so there is no need to lose hope just yet. Here is what the journey looks like:
Diagnosis:
- Women
● You can get diagnosed by first getting an ultrasound to find out if you have PCOS or polycystic vary syndrome. You will have to drink plenty of water an hour before so that the organs can be well seen against the walls of the abdomen.
● You can also go for a laparoscopy to find out if you have endometriosis (thick tissue that starts growing on the ovaries). In this procedure, a thin tube which has a camera attached is inserted in a small incision in the abdomen after CO2 is pumped into the woman’s stomach. This helps to observe the organs without having to go for open surgery.
- Men
● The only way for men to be diagnosed is if they take a semen analysis. In this process, semen is collected in a container and then tested under a microscopic to check the sperm count.
Treatment:
- Women:
● Women can go for medications or surgery or laser surgery to remove cysts if the case gets too severe.
● They can go for laparoscopy where there are small incisions made and the endometriosis is removed or the doctor will suggest electric therapy or laser removal.
- Men
● Men can have varicocele or undescended testis surgically corrected.
● They can take antibiotics for any infections that might be causing their testis to swell.
● They can take hormone medication if they testosterone is too high or too low which can affect fertility.
Infertility is definitely something that many people struggle with but with the way technology has advanced, there is no such thing as impossible nowadays.
